How do you know if the starter is bad?

How do you know if the starter is bad?
If the starter is bad will the engine still turn over and just not start or will it just click or not doanything. I need to know. Car wont start.

check ur starter solenoid. let us know how that looks.

IFD the engine spins, the starter is good. The starters only jhob is to turn the engine...whether or not it starts to run is the engine's problem.

the solenoid looks fine, alittle gritty and old but fine.

Are you sure it's not something as simple as being flooded? Does it turn over really fast, or is it sluggish?
