Red face How do you guys do it..

To all of you that cut your power steering belt, or completely aliminated it.

My Power steering belt broke off this morning, and I just found out the hard way how crappy it is without powersteering. How do you guys live with that? I can't wait till i get off work to go to autozone to get all new belts so this will not happen again.

The people that do this on purpous drain the power steering fluid as well. That helps to make it turn more easily. The better route is to get a manual rack. They are designed for it.

I use tha pOw@H! LOL

It wasn't hard to drive even with the pump and all that junk on there. By the second day I had adjusted to driving so and I did the same to my TII. If you can't drive like that your either weak or lazy.

Actually its easier to drive if ya loop the power steering lines connect the out line to the in line with a section of hose. I dont have my daily driver setup like that though LOL. It only sux when your not moving.

It was still very stiff when moving, like it didn't want to move. Once the belt broke off i knew it, cause i could barley steer the car, it sucked.

There is something wrong with two key components here then.......

Your arms are broken. :p

At anything above 3mph I can turn it lock to lock with not much trouble. While I am parked I use both hands. But at speed its no different than with PS.

Hit the weightroom. From a DEAD stop, the car will be hard to steer. However, once you start moving it becomes waaaaay easier to steer and above 20mph it's like it has power steering.

How much fluid do you guys suggest draining out? I just capped all the lines when I did mine. Its not too bad, but if it can be better than great. BTW, my 115lb GF can drive my car, lol. Hit the weights mane.

After driving the t2 for so long, when I drive my mom's z3 I fling the wheel all over the place. No P/S gives you a lot more feel over the road. You get used to parking in about a week.

Change it to a loop line, its a bit easier.

BTW, I can spin the wheel at a dead stop lock to lock with one finger - however, I am 3 of your GF plus a biscut.

the first time I actually drove an FC with power steering, the first words out of my mouth were "what the **** is this?"

Manual > Power
on our cars.

I been driving my beater without Powersteering for over a year and now I cant stand P/S. It just weird goin from no p/s to p/s. Beside the only PITA part is when your trying to paralle park and in parking lots. My beater was also Front wheel so it's a little harder to drive no p/s then RWD. I'm only 115lb, skinny as hell and I manage no powersteering so you shouldn't have any problems. Unless your skinner and weaker then me (I'm pretty damn weak).

What lines would I loop exactly? All I did was plug up all the lines going to the pump(I believe there was 3?).

Obviously none of you guys have been driving your car that's rigged for power steering when something went wrong and it cut out on you.

When it's supposed to work but doesn't, it's hard as hell to turn that wheel. Well, relatively so, and it's NOT good for normal driving.

If you've purposely taken out your PS system, it's a totally different monster.

Cut the guy some slack. Mine cuts out once in a while and it is NOT easy to turn when that happens. Yeah, I'm a chick, so bite me. But I'm NOT weak, and the way it feels is NOT a way someone would want to normally drive a vehicle.

I've driven cars without power steering (1938 Ford V-8 with <20k original miles, anyone?) that are MEANT to be that way, and they drive just fine. My RX-7 does NOT feel like that when the power steering goes out.

:P

dosnt the stock power steering stop working over 45mph anyway??

and its true man im not 115 but 145 still isn't a big guy and i had no problem with my '86 luxury. no PS and i loved it.....still i can't get myself to comit to removing the PS on my TII because i like being able to back into parking spaces without both freakin hands on the wheel while im trying to look backwards too....hehe

another slap in the face.......as if the gf regulating wasnt enough j/k...my friend drives a 67ford PU yacht sized....no power steering....and i dont know the ratio but its like 6 turns lock to lock.....not to mention its like curling 20lbs to turn!! try that for a week......you'll be beatin off in record times man !!

hahahahaaaa......

I tested the car out without the belt and everything else hooked up. Its not hard. BTW I weigh 122 lbs and have tiny arms. My girl can drive my car without any strain. Some people are just lazy. :p

My beater rack and pinion boot is crack and I know what u mean how it hard as heck to drive. I still manage it though, plus the suspension on that POS was fuked too.
