how do you check for fault codes on the ECU?

I have been having trouble starting my car since I removed my smog pump. My car is a 90 TII with 3in dp, 3in main cat replacement pipe, FCD, profec B, turbo timer, custom air intake, cone filter, N1 catback, air/fuel guage, and boost guage. After removing the pump the car seems like it has lost all fuel pressure at start up. Meaning to get the car started I need to give it some gas. After checking my work I couldn't find anything wrong, so I called Rotary Performance. They suggested that I check for fault codes. I'm unsure how to do this and would like some instruction. Should I try this or should I just take it to the dealer here in town? Please help.

Thanks nashman69g. I really appreciate this. I hope it is something simple. I think I'm still going to have a Mazda mechanic look at it first though. If he can't figure it out I'll give it a try.

Why ? Its as simple as picking up girls

Ground the initial connector, then turn the key to "ON" (I know it says to NOT start the car, but I did that once anyway. Car idled at 300rpm , so DONT DO IT )

Observe CE light. Go to section 4 in the FSM, and look up the pulse pattern of each error code. Error codes will come smaller-number-first, and will loop until you disconnect the connector or turn the key to "OFF".

Find out what's wrong, correct it, reset ECU (unplug battery for 30"), check again. Simple, eh ?

Fault code check complete. I got no codes. What does mean? Is it that there is nothing wrong or could it be that the part that is bad just doesn't have a sensor? Please help. I don't want to blow my engine because of this.

No error codes: either a) you did it wrong (not easy to do this wrong ), or b) you are correct when assuming that it could be something that isnt "detectable".

I guess its time to see an -experienced- rotary mechanic take a look at it. Dont let him charge you though for just looking

Thanks but the closest thing I have to that is the Mazda dealer here in town. Looks like I'll be taking it to them. Thanks for all the help.
