How do you change Transmission Fluid?
I have been searching but I haven't found a guide on how to change the transmission fluid in an automatic transmission. I was wondering if anyone out there had one.
Thanks

i just did it on my car ifs very simple (i didnt change the filter tho you might want to) just unbolt the pan on the bottom of the transmission little at a time because fluid WILL start pouring out as soon as you crack a few bolts lose then once you get it off pour all the fluid out reinstall pan put a funnel in the hole for check the fluid level and put in proper amount of fluid thats all there is to it

twistedshadow's got it right. loosen one corner first, then move out from there. (so the fluid has a specific place to drain). once the pan is off, its usually a good idea to clean it, look for metal shavings that type of thing. then put it back together. not too hard.

I just changed my fluid the other day, the pan on it really doesn't give you much leway on getting only one corner.
Step 1: Unbolt heat shield from side (You don't need to take it all the way off if you have an extention for your socket but it helps to get the bolts back on)
Step 2: Losen all the bolts around a 1/4 turn (more is ok just so u can loosen them w/ ease)
Step 3: Keep a catch pan ready and slowly unbolt half the bolts (personally I did every other one)
Step 4: Now take 1 bolt out slowly and crack the pan away w/ a screwdriver (if the pan won't budge take out the other bolts a tad more)
Step 5: Slowly unbolt all the bollts evenly, but enough on one side to keep a good amount comming down to the catch pan. (It makes a wide-ish stream)
Step 6: After a few loosens (you'll get what I meen it drains a good amount at a time) it will be a good 90% drained but the pan will still have a good amount in it. Take the rest of the bolts off and lower the pan into the catch.
Step 7: *If you want to change the filter, unbolt around it but becareful the threads break easy in the tranny. (I did it so one bolt wont slide back in) This is easy but there will be more fluid behind the filter, I drank a good amount here lol.
Step 8: *Put in new filter
Step 9: Clean the gasket off the pan (mine was as if someone chemically bonded the thing on) and the tranny area (to make sure no gasket is left on there)
Step 10: Replace pan with new gasket, and remember to bolt the heat shield back on.

FSM... its a bit scary to look at sometimes, but its really helpful if you take the time to read everthing.
