is it just the bolts on the back??
is it ok to take just that off without it needed to be rebalanced??

Okay, do you want to take off the compressor housing to access the compressor wheel?
Or do you want to remove the compressor wheel off the shaft?

If it's the former, yes, just remove the 6(?) bolts on the back of the compressor housing.
You might need to gently tap the housing to get it off the backing plate.
Be very careful removing the housing, as the tight tolerances make for a very close fit - it you cant the housing far enough to contact the compressor wheel, you can damage the compressor wheel itself.

If you're gentle, you should be okay.
Don't be banging on it too hard!
Soft taps with a piece of wood (or wooden mallet or equivalent) should be all you need to loosen the compressor housing.

Take a pic of the compressor wheel?
If there is contact, it's easier to tell on the compressor wheel.
The compressor wheel blades should have "clean edges" - if they are jagged, then that is bad.

The dark spots are normal, as you're still running the stock emissions system?
Either that or your air filter isn't doing that good of a job?

There's some funny spot on the top fins of the bottom pic, but I think that's glare from the pic?

If the fins are all clean with nice edges, it looks fine!

Yeah, the turbine housing pops off in a similar manner.
The bolts are a little harder to get off, but don't worry about breaking them.
The turbine housing is usually stuck pretty good, but use the two alternating bolts that hit the oil flanges to "push" the turbine housing off the center housing.

Good luck!

BTW, did you get to measure the compressor wheel?

Even Sears carries the plastic ones, which are like under $10.
You really need the dial caliper accuracy to get a good measurement.

Notice the chart is down to hundreths of an inch!

Wow, that kinda sucks.
Sears carries a non-Craftsman brand.
It's nothing fancy - just a plastic dial caliper.
I've seen them in numerous Sears, even up in NorCal when I was up there.

Yep, if those measurements are accurate, you got ripped off.
I used to run a T5/T6 compressor side.
It's good for about 250 to 260 at the wheels at around 15psi.
It makes about 20 to 30 more hp over the stock compressor wheel.

Sorry about the bad news.
It's definitely NOT an H-trim.
