How do u get the halfshafts out?

First off my haynes manual says to remove the brake discs, is this necessary? i don't see why, i can't remove them anyhow, i have the big center nut off/ the 2 big screws and all the other brake equipment, but the discs won't budge. Secondly i have the diff out and the subframe down/ exhaust out etc. There is nothing in my way and i can't pull the halfshafts out, i can pull them out of the wheel hub splines but the black boot( the joint) gets caught between the struts and part of the control arm. Wtf? how are u supposed to get them out? IM putting in the whole TII drivetrain FYI.

I have done this before, I took the rotors off. You have to use a puller and push the splined end out of the hub. Also watch out on the other end, the metal seal on the halfshaft has a tendency to come off when it comes off the rear-end.

I remember it being a tight fit, but it comes out.

hmmm, well i do have the splined part of each halfshaft out of each hub, and i do have a puller, which i have used to push it out, it just won't go past it i dunno why, my puller does fit w/o removing the disc.

Well, the struts are 3 nuts to remove on each side, I'd get those out of the way first. Then pull back on the halfshaft, there's nothing else holding them in if you've already removed the splined ends out of the hubs.

I only saw one nut at the bottom of each strut; connecting it to the control arm? what 3 are u talking about?I don't need to totally remove it just get it out of the way, and do i need to worry about it springing or anything once i let it loose?

Well, you have the two nuts holding it on up top

I suppose you could just remove the bottom bolt.

No, removal will not cause the spring to come flying out, they're designed to be removed together. Once you remove the bottom bolt, you'll probably have to tug the shock inward to get it off of it's perch.
