How do u get the halfshafts out?

First off my haynes manual says to remove the brake discs, is this necessary? i don't see why, i can't remove them anyhow, i have the big center nut off/ the 2 big screws and all the other brake equipment, but the discs won't budge. Secondly i have the diff out and the subframe down/ exhaust out etc. There is nothing in my way and i can't pull the halfshafts out, i can pull them out of the wheel hub splines but the black boot( the joint) gets caught between the struts and part of the control arm. Wtf? how are u supposed to get them out? IM putting in the whole TII drivetrain FYI.
