How do NA owners launch?

My car bogs like ****, its horrible. I just put in a new stock clutch and a new slave cylinder and if I rev it to 3000RPM and drop it it will do a little bitch spin and bog like ****. I know its a very underpowered car, is that all it is or am I doing something wrong? How do other NA owners launch when they're at a 1/4 strip?

I usually rev it to about 6-7k then slip the clutch, it launches hard that way, but I've got pretty good tires. If your tires suck then there's not much you can do about it. Usually you can launch harder with a clutch slip, as your not shock loading the tires to the point where they spin.

I slipped the clutch from around 3300-3500 RPM. Anything higher and I would spin. Stock ports, full exhaust, ACT street/strip clutch, 225 tires all around, Eibach springs and Tokico blue struts. On Street tires, with limited slip.

I gripped real good.

4 grand, sharply dump the clutch (Not abruptly though, you could stall haha). Sometimes I get a little chirp from my tires that way but I sure do take off like a bat out of hell.

A whole lot of it depends on the tires and power the engine is putting down. Just take it out to a deserted road and experiment. Try dropping the clutch and slipping it, and at different rpms.
I never really did true drag starts. I only tried a few times when I was at the track and never got it right on my car.

lol tires? I have new TOYO Proxes TPTs. Thats not what I'm saying though, the problem is I can't even get them to light up, liek I said it does a little bitch chirp and bogs, it never takes off. I don't really care about racing, but I do usually take off aggressively at stoplights and bogging is teh ghey. I'm scared to dump the clutch over 3k. Should I try to dump it at like 5k?

No. Dumping the clutch puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain, man. Practice slipping first. Don't burn the **** out of it, but maybe like ~.75-~1.25 seconds of slippage, while giving it a bit of gas. Just practice man. You'll get it.

Some people swear by clutch dumps at 5-6k, though. I just never felt a need to do it. I ran my NA on Eagle F1-GSD3 tires for a while on a set of 17" wheels, and also on a set of 16" wheels ran BFG G-Force sports, and the clutch slipping seemed to work well for both combinations.

I just feather the clutch out at about 4.5K and go. Never bog or spin the tires.

i agree with slpping the clutch. not as much wheel hop or tire spin. i usually slip it at about 4 grand. i also have a set of sumitomo htrz II for rubber. there pretty grippy.

I use to dump it at stop signs and it would rip like a ****(a nice launch), I broke my seat rail on my driver side while clutch kicking during a turn(they were rusty anyways).

LOL. Uh, I hope you guys are talking about NA's, obviously a TII would bust the tires loose pretty easy. Mine doesn't though, it was actually a good launch at 5k. Maybe I should try adjusting my clutch pedal for shorter travel.

Yep, if you bog it means you don't have enough revs. When launching fast I rev to aroudn 4k and feather the clutch. I just never saw the point in a pure drag start because I don't take it to the track.

I raced a 1990 300zx a few months back...launched @ around 6K...car started to go...revs went up...shifted into second...hit the gas car started to bog(kinda sounded like popping popcorn, but low tone)...rmp's went up but the car didn't feel like it was accelerating...let off the gas...car started to pick up speed again...then a big puff of smoke came up through the shifter...oops

clutch, right?

I had the same problem (although not as severe - i could smell clutch, but not see smoke) and thought I had a bad clutch that slipped a lot. I think I just hit the gas to soon, so the clutch didn't have time to engage. Now I wait second and then step on the gas again.

I do a lot of autocrossing (solo 2); 7 years and I still find it hard to balance between bogging and burning the clutch (running Kumho 710 r-compounds)! I usually launch at 3500 and slip the clutch in for ~1 sec while squeezing open the throttle to keep the revs up - done right, I get just a bit of wheel spin and a strong launch. On the street, the Eagle RS-A's I have on the car light up easy, but I do much the same , except maybe start 2500-3000 and feed in less gas.

haha i like that idea.

anyways, if i want a good solid launch, not too much bogging and no spinning, i launch at about 3K and let the clutch slip a fair bit, a little over a second i would say. This is with winter tires BTW, but they are actually pretty grippy cuz the compound is so soft. ***** gay in the corners tho
