1). Impact wrench and a 52mm (?) or 2 1/8" Impact socket.... Don't even think about not using an impact wrench -- they come off sooooo easily if you have one

2). 4 lb sledge hammer: Hit the fliwheel square + hard, then rotate it 180* and do it again... repeat until it pops off

Before you hit the flywheel with the hammer, put the nut back on a few threads so the F/W doesn't come flying off the end of the E-Shaft

Have fun ,
Manolis

I completely agree with PHENIX. Impact wrnech all the way. Rent if you don't want to buy one......will save you hours.

I only used a 2 lb deadblow to beat my flywheel off......may have taken a little longer but still worked......remember to hit the flywheel towards the outer rim for best results.

I had a friend weld a 6' piece of steel pipe to a 2 1/8 socket socket cost 11.99 at thrifty auto. worked very easily.I used a 3' piece of 1/2 x 3/4 steel with a hole drilled into it for a clutch pressure plate bolt, and the bar resting on one of the flywheel dowell pins. For getting the flywheel off the eccentric shaft, a 3lb sledge worked very well.

my friend and i just busted a 1/2" drive (socket wrench) on that 2 1/8" flywheel bolt before we were able to get it off w/ a heavier duty one and a poor-boy's extension for leverage. ;b

now, we can't get the flywheel off the e-shaft! DOH!

keep the nut loose but not off, then get a heavy duty mallet and hit it as hard as you can say at 3 and 9 o'clock. the flywheel should come loose. otherwise, remove the nut and spray wd-40 on the key. put the nut back and do the steps i mentioned above.

Due to the amount of torque, the flywheel nut is on there way tighter than the original spec after some miles. Try to get access to an impact wrench, it is highly recomanded...

To get the flywheel off, definetly use the biggest hammer you have around. Spraying it with WD40 will help. The main trick is when you hammer it, hammer the edge on the flywheel where the flywheel "key" is pointing to. Make sure you don't hit the ring gear and damage it, also not hit the clutch contact area leaving deep marks.

If you hit the right spot, I usually can get the flywheel off in one hit. Hit it a few more times if it doesn't want to come off.

atkins rotary reccomends and uses a long peice of aluminum angle with some holes drilled to fit on the flywheel to keep it in place then you step on it so the motor wont turn and use the 54mm socket with a breaker bar to break it loose.

yep give a good hit with a heavy hammer.....but be sure to have the nut back on....trust me the last thing u want is for a flywheel to drop on u...and watch for the key if it falls make sure u find it....cant fit up with out it.

impact wrench is the way to go but if not then try a nice long breaker bar

I used a breaker bar, "cheater" bar about 3' long, and PUSHED with both feet... (I can assure you I had at least 600 lb/ft on it!) then had a friend hit the handle with a sledge hammer to get it loose. (one hit) Use an impact... a BIG one. It's much easier.

And ditto to what everyone is saying about getting the flywheel off- smack alternate sides with a sledge/deadblow/etc to get it to pop loose- leave the nut on a few threads to keep from hurting yourself.

the 54mm bolt is torqued down to 350ft lbs and then it has lock-tite on it too.. thats why its so hard.
