are your pads worn/cheap? cheap pads are cheap for a reason, they will squeak more than the "upgraded" brake pads, as the upgraded ones contain more brass and copper for their metals as opposed to cheap brakes, which use steel/iron filings, alumium and such..

Look in your caliper's "window" and see how low your pads are. usually its good to replace them if the braking material is thinner than the backing plate. if its not that, then maybe your calipers are shot, like both my rear ones =p except mine makes a groaning sound

no one here knows what there talking about. the reason brakes squeek is because the pads can vibrate at realy high frequences wich causes an audible squeek between the caliper and the backing plate. yes this is odd. any ways there are two remidies to slove this and you should do both
first remove the pads and sand or bevel the edges with sand paper or a bench grinder and second go to the parts store and get a toob of disc brake quiet. they also sell a spray can of it, and coat the backing plates. you can also get shims to put on the backs of the pads
and they will squeek no more

Mazda's already come with brake pad shims.
Yes, he should have used anti-squeel on the stock shims and back of the pads.
The problem could also be caused by the front rotors being glazed. As he probably didn't have the rotors turned or cleaned.
