91 NA, antenna motor broke so when pulled back the carpet in the back to get to the antenna i found a layer of metal in the way (welded) so i cant get it out of my way unless i cut it, how can i get my antenna and motor out and install a new one?...
The one subject that is glossed over in that description is the part where you magically remove the rear spoiler. If you haven't done this before, first access the two Phillips screws on the front points of the spoiler by gently removing the round plastic caps. Then loosen four 10 mm hex nuts from underneath. The tricky part (which Mazda conveniently left out of the 1990 FSM) is that the two rear corners are held in place with plastic snaps that have little rubber grommets to keep water out of your trunk. If yours are original, they will break into several pieces and be garbage when you're done. Your Mazda dealer (or Mazdatrix, etc.) can supply you with a new pair of snaps for about $10 if I recall correctly. It is good to have them on hand before you begin.
