how detrimental would it be to....
run it with exhaust manifolds only? just wondering because i need to go to work 2morrow and i dont have the precats hooked back up yet...my plan is to just call in and tell them i'll be quite late...unless it isnt real detrimental to run it open...i know its a very bad idea on piston engines, as it will burn the valves...but we dont have valves. lol

to your hearing or the car?????? i dont think it would hurt the car at all, but your ears might bleed a little and you might pass out and die from CO poisoning

If people shoot flames from the mufflers, imagine the flames from the manifold. Carry a fire extinguisher. Don't expect to have power. Exhaust tuning is important.
Call a cab.

it's all good if you are just driving around town. just don't get pulled over, it is very illegal to remove emissions equipment. I drove around all over town for 2 days like that. and it's really cool if you see anyone on a harley give 'em a rev

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
Yeah, that **** will thump the ground. Carry earplugs, No ****. Other than that, it will not hurt the car. The car will lose a lot of power though, but the engine itself will never recieve any damage. IT isnt like a piston engine, there is nothing inside to get damaged by teh possibility of cold air coming back inside when shut off.

I drove around for a day with only header and it was loud haha. Best sound ever. People on the freeway were giving me dirty looks. When I turned on my car and revved it (only to 3k cuz it was really loud) everyone on my block came out of their houses to see what the hell was happening outside. I even raced an s13 that chased me. I took him out by like 3-4 car lengths. Maybe he backed down after seeing the flames light up the bottom of my car or maybe his eardrums were blown and couldnt handle it.

update
car is back together, has an increase in sound :-)
unsure of power yet, my main concern was the overheating, with the precats plugged like they were, i have no doubt that was half the problem....if this didnt work out, time to buy a smaller fan for the front and remove the condensor. lol

I was running my turbo with just the downpipe on it, sounded quite nice, other than the flames shooting from the passanger seat to behind the car, it was rather cool. It wasn't TOO loud, but it was loud enough, neighbors complained about 20 times, drove it around once and scared the **** out of everyone, drove past a honda boy with it and he covered his ears and looked at me in awe

I had NO deep sound with just the downpipe, I think the turbo killed any chance of that, it sounded like a GSX1300R with Muzzy aftermarket exhaust, unbelievably loud, but not deep, was still cool sounding, but you get the idea. Those flames sort of made me hurry into getting the rest of the exhaust back on however, I didn't want to catch my car on fire from underneath! Good luck

haha....well, it definitly has some power now, then again, it probably didnt have that much due to the honeycomb structure sitting the wrong way, blocking up the passage between the 2nd precat and the main cat...hehe...now to fix the 6pi...which is rather aparent isnt working as now when i hit the 4000 rpm mark it stutters a bit as it climbs......

Two precats? Are you serious? Does the S5 have two as well? If so I need to gut the first one as well. I ran my baby for a couple days with from precat to main back off and that was the absolute ****! It sounded so cool I wanted to leave it like that until the cops told me to put the exhaust back on cause the neighbors were complaining. I loved that deep sound out the little pipe. I would run the car like that if I could get away with it.

The s4 has twp pre-cats and one main. The s5 has only one pre-cat, with an empty chamber in front of it, and one main cat.
I drove mine without even the iron collector to the muffler shop to get the header. I just made a temp heat shield to keep from melting things on the passenger side.
I even got the guy on a Harley up ahead of me to look around an give me that WTF?? look..

thank you for clarifying, i new it was something silly. lol...but yeah, the car feels so much stronger now, it has renewed my faith in the rotary, the thing was pissing me off so much [still is a bit(overheating)], but now its a blast, wednesday i get to race some v6 fbodies, they are going down, considering i hung with them with the major blockages in my exhaust (the "honeycomb" structure was sitting perpendicular to the way it should, allowing very little air to go around it... :-\ ...
bwahahaha....
