How come my high beams dont stay on?

The switch works, and my flash to pass lights work, and if I hold it they stay on, but they cant be clicked on and off... Is there some technique i am doing worng? (i am jsut pulling the lever toward me like flash to pass, but they dont stay on)

Is this a relay or a switch or a fuse or what?

also, can i put the headlight switch in from my 87 parts car if it is the problem?
My car is an 89 GXL

The FTP signal is generated right BEFORE the switch "locks" into place for the high beams. I'm assuming you know this, but just in case....in order to switch to high beams, the switch has to go a little more than what is necessary for the FTP signal....

Better check all the relays that are right up front in the engine bay (right next to the overflow tank). Two of these control the beams. Check/replace them just to be safe....

On my 85 GSL, pushing the stalk clicks them on,
pulling it will retract back when you let go of
the stalk.

I had the same problem.
For me it was the CPU. I needed to resolder a few cracked connections and then I had high beams again.

Which CPU? The main one or one for the lights... Is there even one for the lights?
Where is this CPU located?
Damn, I need to buy the service manual for this car...

Thanks, by the way.
