How to clean exhaust

just bought a used exhaust, is there a specific cleaner I can use to clean out some of the gunk before installing it?

also, what can I use to make the pipes and mufflers look shiny again, I'm thinking brasso, would that be ok?

If it's chrome/stainless, try bathroom cleaner, and then windex for the streaks. Bathroom cleaner gets rid of gunk, and windex will remove streaks.

What I use to clean internals of an engine is ATF, so I'm sure it can handle some of that baked on gunk on your exhuast. Just poor some a spung or tooth brush or something and start scrubbing away.

Straight kerosene on a rag is amazing at removing just about anything from metal. Kerosene is dirt cheap and a jug of it will last forever.
