You should have the car taken to a Mazda Dealer and have it compression checked there. Rotaries have to be comp tested differently than pisston motors, and they use a different comp tester. I personally only trust Mazda for this test.

I think stock is 9.4 : 1 and minimum is 6.0 : 1 with a difference of no more than 1.5 between sides. It's been awhile since I have looked up the N/A info so someone correct me if I'm wrong. Of course Mazda has all of the correct info at the dealer when they do the check. You get a printout with the readings and weather they pass or not.
