How can you tell you are at "Top Dead Center"

Like the question says. On a rotary how can you tell you are at TDC or BDC?
I am trying to do some timing adjustment and would like to know.

Thanks

Steve

Well, the easy way would be to know that the timing marks on the pulley are 5 & 20 degrees ATDC on the front rotor.

The pain in the *** way is as follows:
Pull the plugs.
If you want to find TDC for the front rotor, rotate the e-shaft until you see a tip seal of the rear rotor in the leading plug hole. Rotate until you see the same tip seal in the trailing plug hole. Half way in between these two positions will be TDC for the front rotor.

Yes, sounds like a pain in the butt, however it is nice to know how to do it if you can't find your timing marks.

Thanks

It might be less of a pain to pull the front main pulley off, find the marks with your fingernail or such (they're fairly obvious up close), and remark them with something. I did that on mine - just used a whiteout pen to mark the timing mark. All you need to be able to do is pick it out with a timing light. Fingernail polish would work well too.

When I installed the pulley I didn't pay attention to the marks. I thought the pulley could only go in one way. I was told I was wrong. So know if I need to find TDC I can do it without timming marks.

Thanks

The pulley only bolts up in one direction. They're offset so you can't bolt it on any other way.
