how can i tell if my reman has new housing?
hey, i just got news that my Mazda reman engine just arrived. i'll be picking it up on monday from them. i was just wondering if there was a way to tell if they used new housings or not on it.

umm, it'll look new? Seriously, you should be able to tell, unless they buff and polish old rotor housings. Compression numbers will also give it away, I would think...

i don't plan to open it up for any reason. i'm sticking with the stock ports for now. i don't really need anything more then that at the moment. in a years time or so, then i'll open her up and give her a nice agressive SP.
Wayne, thanks. i had heard from a friend that if they were new they wouldn't be painted. just thought i'd ask and be certain.
also, this is my first Mazda Reman. about how much quicker should this motor break in compared to say a rebuild with used everything? i'll be going by the Brian Cain break in procedure which my friend followed with his half-BP RE motor and it ran strong as heck. i'm hoping for good things with this motor.

I have toured Mazda's re-man facility (the one that used to be in Jacksonville Florida).... Used housings have been spray painted.....aluminum. New housings are clean unpainted aluminum.

cool thanks alot. i was supprised how fast i got my reman. i was thinking i'd have to wait like a month since the dealership said the last reman they ordered took over a month to get there.
oh yeah, while we're on the topic of remans, are they using 2 piece apex seals or 3 piece now? i can't remember which but i remember someone saything they switched within the last year or so.

i got a hella deal. normal list was 2500 and i got it for 1950.
reason for the discount is i work for Toyota and do business with Mazda pretty frequently so they know and like me.
i can't tell if the housings are painted or no. it looks really close to being painted but i think its not.

I have boughten 2 FC motors from the dealer and have always paid $1950.00 I have also gotten 1 FD motor and paid 2250.00 That is the normal non-marked up price.
Break it in for 2500 miles. My last FC motor kept getting more power until that point. A good break in is worth everything.
