How can I get rid of wheel hop?

I get some good launches when I rev to 4500 or so, but if I stand on it the rear starts dancing and I don't want to break anything. I know I can ease off to remedy it but I'd rather be able to keep it floored and let the boost go.

all cars get it, not just imports, my friend's chev used to be so bad.

get yourself some good rear shocks, and softer tires, 16" max, 15" would be better.

or course softer and smaller tires or worse for handling... so.

Your rear spring rates are too high. Too stiff of a rear suspension causes the wheels ho hop instead of a nice, smooth spin. You also dont get as much weight transfer, and lose some of your launching ability. 150 LB springs would be much better on the back for launching.

srx7.com (shane racing) sells a rear bushing set that they claim eliminates wheel hop and is good for drag racing and road racing. It is expensive though... Make sure to check all engine, trans and diff mounts, bushings, shocks and even locking rear end; the problem is MUCH worse if everything is not perfect!

No No NO!!!! The cure is simple. Soon as you feel the wheels starting to hop just put the clutch in a bit. I have the fastest starts now, and no more wheel hops.

Does this affect the cornering of the car at all. It's more important to me to keep the set-up I have as far as spring rates because it corners so well. If I were to reduce my rear spring rate in the back it would induce oversteer.

I have heard that using old worn out springs in the rear is best.
That's what I use along with Nitto Drag Radials and have no hop.

Actually what they said about a softer spring is true. However, some things you can do:

If you have adjustable shocks, soften them up when drag racing.

Drop your rear tire pressure to about 20# for drag racing.

(Neither of those will help your cornering- they aren't good for autocross, or even "spirited" street driving...)

Also you might consider playing with your launch RPM... find the fine line between bogging and wheelhop.

Just get more rubber under the back if you cant spin them you cant hop them

actually they have given you the best advice. But also check your bushings and if your hearing a loud clunking sound it might be a differential mount.
