how can i beat a gsr w/turbos
Hey guys, ive got this guy at school who wants to race me for $500, he wont tell me his setup, but i learned from one of his friends he at least has a aftermarket turbo, and vtech controller, cold air intake, what else i dont know, i know he is running on 17's which could slow him down a little, he's got to be fast though, what would i have to do to my 89 tII to beat him, it's stock now, ive got a apexi n1 im putting on in a few days, what all will it take?

I depends on which turbo he has on his car. But turboed GS-R's will be very quick so don't undersetimate them and you will need a lot more than what you have to keep up with him.

He's probably going to run low 14's - high 13's...depending on how he drives...FWD is kinda hard to launch....
You'll just need some bolt-on's....full exhaust, a little more boost.....it will be like racing a stock 3rd gen Rx7.....

It depends. If the car has no headwork, and stock compression piston he won't be able to run more than 4-6 psi. This will still be a formidable opponent, and he will run somewhere around a 13.7 QM. With lower compression pistons and headwork he will be able to run around 12-18 psi which will put him in the high 12's with the right launch! Make sure you find out a little bit more about his setup. If he didn't install the turbo himself there is a good chance the place that installed it has his boost limited by a 4-6psi wastegate! You next question should be to head over the 2nd gen section and figure out what it takes to run 12's! You can get a larger compressor wheel, port your wastegate and run 280 rwhp on the stock turbo. You'll need to do all the supporting fuel/reliablity mods that accompany this. Look into a 3'' dp, mp, w/ your n1, apex afc/avc-r (or mbc), larger secondaries injectors, fmic, upgraded fuel pump....

yeah, my friend had a 1997 (i think) integra LS w/T3 garrett turbo (and the whole intake/exhaust bit)...i rode in it at 7.5 psi and i'm pretty sure the T2 i have could stay with it. he "says" he raced an stock FD when he raised the psi to 9...and stayed even with it from around 40-90...

yeah dont race for the money. and since you only have a cat back, i wouldnt even bother racing for fun. a friend of mine had a turbo kit on his civic si @ 7psi he ran a 14.0. gsr should be a little faster.

relvinnian is right though, most of them are running around with really low boost, if he's had internal work done and has a decent sized turbo (DRAG or the HKS one) and running more than 10psi or so, it will take a lot to get where he is.

punch him in the face and spare him the embarassment of being taken by a 1.3L rotory.
my buddy has an 88 TII and he could always take GSRs, maybe not with the mods on that car yer talking about. but he's running a 75 hp shot of nos on a wet system now...and the GSRs got nothing on him now
if you arent down with nos, then consider a downpipe, it made a big difference on my buds TII
good luck

aight guys, i found out from his brother today that he is running 14 psi of boost, how i dont know, air intake, vtech controller, still dont know what kind of turbo, catback exhaust, that's all ive found out so far, i do know he is a suckass driver, so that should be to my advantage, unless he gets his brother to drive it, he's a well experianced supra driver, his 88 puts out like 460hp, anyways, im not racing his ***, there are no emissions here, so ive already removed the cats, and placed straight pipes, i doubt i will race him for $$, maybe just for fun if he will, unless mod the hell out of my car, hehe, i would love to waste his honda-acura ***, i think i could take him though if i can get it up to like 250hp, because he really cant drive worth a damn, my sister almost beat his *** on the highway in her rustang, but i dont know if he was pushing it fully. Hey now that i think of it, i might race him for like $50, we'll see,
Thanks Guys,
Jason

If he's running a t 03/04 turbo, most likely he has the Drag III turbo kit. Running at about 7psi with an all stock engine, he should be in the high 13's no problem. You said that he's running like 14 lbs. boost, he should be in the 12's easy.
