How does flames from the exhaust mean lean? It's normally from a rich condition on a turbo car - when you close the throttle plates, you shut off the flow of compressed air. You still have some extra fuel in the engine which ignites in the exhaust.

If anything, it means the car is running rich.

No beer money = No night life.
No night life = No *****.
So just leave the flaming **** to the batmobile.
knowledge of how a combustion engine works = somewhat useful...

lots of fuel = flames
lots of fuel = lean...? negative.

being on a racing team that doesn't know the difference between rich and lean = no *****

So just leave the flaming **** to the flamers.

Well I am telling you the truth... Believe it or not flames are backfires from a lean detonating engine. About the drag Racing team We run 8:32 @ 158MPH on a full metal 1st gen RX-7 Can you beat that?
8:32 = a nice amount of *****.

I have no doubt of your intelligence Angel Guard Racing Team, but I do know for a fact that the flames I shoot are from a rich mixture. The bov vents out some of the air, but that air has already gone through the afm so the engine injects fuel for it. At every shift I get flames and the bov goes and the a/f gauge goes rich. Im sure that a detonation from leaning out would also give you some flames so there are probably many different ways to get flames, either lean or rich.

Uh
You do realize there is a kit for this. It's called a flamethrower. Basically all it is, is a spark plug oooh. Here is the link if you really want to do it.

i shoot fireballs when i want to and until i figure out how to do it on demand, get constant flames as well. i dont think an N/A car will do the constant flames thing. i shoot firballs by doing the accelerate and let off thing, but i also notice my rear end lighting up at night between shifts, usualy the 3rd to 4th shift. the constant fire is pretty big. its not 20 foot flames(is that possible?) but i have gotten asked if my car was on fire before by people who saw the flames. its all in the fuel upgrades and open-vent BOV. without them, id just be getting little pops every now and then.

btw- the rotaries natural tendency to throw fire is what makes throwing fire cool. its the only engine i can think of that is so willing to burn its back bumper off. rigging up injectors and spark plugs takes away from that unique coolness. it would be like any other car with a spark plug in the tailpipe and wouldn be special or cool anymore. just my $.02

If you have an rx7 and you cant shoot flames then you should be ashamed i can do it now like nonstop to the point its annoying i hate it cause like if im in say 3rd gear and i let off and then get back on it after say 2 seconds then it pops so loud and a flame about 6 inches shoots out my exhaust....its sweet but its getting annoying

i always thought it was just unburnt gas being expelled through your hot exhaust. since the exhaust is hot the gas ignites. so that's what i've known so far. IF i'm wrong then exactly how, and where does the flame come from.

Aight, wanna see flames during the day than it is running lean. Wanna see them at night, which most of us do, than baby you are running rich. If your car takes a hella lot to backfire than you know that you aren't running rich nor lean. So technically you are both right. Oh and blowing flames with a N/a = in second take it up to 6.5, shift, let the rpms drop a bit, than catch the clutch, and BOOM!!!. A Turbo can do this if you trick out it's components however I wouldn't want to drop the clutch to fast with a turbo or bye bye motor.

uh HUH..... how is dropping the clutch in an N/a any different than that of a TII? In fact, it's safer in the TII due to the sturdier drivetrain.

i hear having an aftermarket ignition amp will stop you from shooting flames. thats probbly why im not shooting any. maybe the stock mufflers too, but ive seen ppl shoot fire out the stock muffs.

i have backfires, once in awhile now, but it isn't like flamethrowers though, my backfires are like 1-2 seconds long and goes as big as 1/4 size of my car, i have gutted cat and unsure about the pre-cat, but all i have is a BOV, I just drive a little hard 3-4k rpm use the BOV alot, the more you use the more rich you get, and then KA-POWy, sounds alot like a tires being pop with a shotgun, sometimes it's funny sometimes it's not, because when i'm leaving school their like 6-8 cops surrounding my school because my school got a bad rep i guess, and while i was leaving KA-PPPOOOOOOOWWWW lucky the cop took a right, right before i did it. the thing that is funny though, i was driving on 280 and this old lady cut me off, ME! and so ididn't really care, they cut they cut, no biggie, but for some reason this og lady looks at me really hard, i pass her up and about to get off freeway, BOOOWOWOWOOWOWW right in front of her, i can see her whole car light up and i didn't even intend to do so.
guess my car knows me.
