ok thanks for listning it just sucks cuz i dont want to drill holes in my hood cuz i know that im going to fix the front but the only way to keep the hood down is with pins so i dont know what to do
i have pins on my T2. i have them for the same reason you do. my hood wouldnt close on the latch. i put them in between the headights on the radiator support. i worried about drilling my hood, but when i saw how my car looked afterwords, i really like it so im keeping it this way. i know of a website that details intalation of the hood pins, il see if i can dig it up
ok i found the site. go to www.fc3s.org click on How-tos on the left side of the screen. a list will pop down. click on saftey and another list will pop down. click on hood pins. it will show you how to install them and there are pics of the finsihed project. they used 4 pins when i only used 2, so its a little different than my set up. but the front two are pretty much how i have mine. i like the way they look. kinda gives that aggresive race car look. i only wish i could make sure no one could open my hood. i removed the latch and everything when i did mine so anyone could open my hood.
OK, here's the deal, I had an Opel GT that I couldn't get the hood latch to work right. I figured I'd put hood pins on. So, looking through JC Whitney's (cheesy stuff, but what else you gonna read on the crapper? I mean, if you suddenly realise you're outta toilet paper, the paper in that catalog is mighty thin and soft, right?) I found 'locking hood pins'. They were $14.00 and, to me at least, looked better. No pin sticking up, just a flat plate with a key lock inset. Easy to install too.
if i got any hood pins i would get the ones with lil locks on it there kinda cool i think, so even if they tried to jack your car it'd be pretty hard to get inside and kill the alarm before it would attract alot of attention...

He's right, in most places hood pins arent street legal... youd probably never get pulled over for it... but you have to have a two part system to get into your hood... who knows why... Thats why there is the additional latch once you pop the hood from inside... Probably so you dont accidently pop it open while your driving and have it fly up at you...
If your chassis flexes enough you can unlatch the hood latch.
I was reading something in a mailing list archive... someone in a Mustang found out how important hood pins are when the (functioning 2-part) hood latch unlatched due to chassis flex, going through the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca.
I've had a hood blow open once with a functioning 2-part latch. Never again will I ever own a car with a rear-hinged hood without putting hood pins in as well! Chassis flex can have unexpected consequences...

yea my freind has an 85 300zx and he had just got it fixed up and he went to get it painted and when they where done they didnt lactch the hood good and he was going down the highway and his hood came open and slamed the top of his car and bent the whole hood and kinda messed up the roof this was about 7 min after getting it out of the shop that sucks. now that im hereing all these stories i think i am feeling a little better about putting hood pins in cuz i would like to auto cross and it would be a bitch if your hood came open cuz there goes a hood and a roof and mabe more just for not spending 7 bucks
