Thumbs down hood latch broke and hood is closed

Today I went to open my hood, I pulled the release, I go to open it it's not popped. Go to try again, its broken.

Either the cable broke or it detatched from the latch. There is no tension on it at all.

What I need to know is how I can open my hood.

Car is an 88 tII.

Hood not hatch. ^^

As for the poster, ive never tried but im sure you can access the latch from underneath and pop it just to find and fix the problem.

First I would look at the handle under the dash to see if the cable broke there. Maybe you can grab the end of the cable with vicegrips and pull on it to activate the latch. If not, you may have to get at the latch directly. Try a couple of things. Try getting at the latch from the grille opening. Also, you can try popping up the headlights and see if you can reach the latch with a long tool of some sort to pull on the point where the cable is attached to the latch. If you can't reach it either way, as a last resort, remove the underpanel and reach up from underneath the car to access the latch.

im not sure how to open it if the cable broke, try looking at the lever and see if it just came unhooked, the only other way i know of is to pry it open.

a couple of months back someone had the same thing go wrong..and he accessed the front hoood latch by going under the car.and do it "manually(no cable pulling). you may be able to find it in the second gen archives..grab a flashlight and see what you are up against..no sense in workin "blind"..My dad(bless his soul) would have had the hood open in twenty seconds..Chainsaw!!..ouch..
