Home made TPS?

Well my tps has been going bad, Idle wouldn't stable lize.. jump from 1000-1500rpms about 2 times per second.. and I disconnected like I have read on other posts. It idled about 700 the first day. Then it started idleing high 1500-2000, but stable and drive able. well this weekend it started idleing a bit higher about 3000rpms.. so I connected the tps back on.. and it wouldn't make a difference. I went to three junk yards yesterday trying to hunt down a tps, I just can't afford a new one right now, and my search came up empty. Well went to turn on my car about 10 min ago.. and my car started to idle at 5000rpms!!! Then fallowed by alot of white smoke coming from the exhuast. I quickly turn it off.. and mess with the tps.. turn it..and same thing.

So I am wondering is there any way to some how get the car to idle at a low rpm while I hunt down a tps? This is the only car I have and I need it to drive to school and work.

I have a s5 GTU, 1990.

Have you actually tried to adjust set the TPS the correct way? Or are you just turning it aimlessly trying to make it better?

you have to connect a jumper wire to the 2 terminals of the Initial Set Coupler before you make adjustments.

I used a DMM, and it got ~5v..

I was working on it today.. and saw that the adjustment screw for secondary valves was missing the nut.. causing to slow vibrate downwards.. which didn't let vavles fully close which is why my car to idle at 3000-5000rpms!, I adjusted the screw to have the vavles fully closed. I started car.. seemed to start.. then die.. Adjusted idle screw.. and car now turns on.. and idles unstable at 1000-1500 rpms.

Well I guess the car is driveable. Now I am going to see if i can locate a TPS for my car.

5volts, you are supposed to set it to 1volt. It should only see 5volts at WOT.

I know it should be ~1v... but it comes up 5v when adjusting.. which is why I need to replace the unit.
