Holy low idle!

After doing all my tranny work and re assembling the falling apart exhaust, I noticed right off the idle was WAY OFF.
Im talking 400rpm.
I did not touch anything in the engine compartment.
Other then leaking vac lines, could a falling apart exhaust cause this?
The car does not die, and runs stong.

Also, my speedo is like 5-30mph off after switching to this 86 tranny in my 88. Whats with that?

make sure the speedo drive gear meshed good with the 86's tranny spur gear? see if the ECU "reprograms" itself after a couple of drives, now that it's got different idle air/ boost (vac) inputs after you fixed the exhaust...you could also disconnect the battery for a while to reset it & see if that helps...

meh, thats nothing for low idle, my car can sustain a 200ish rpm idle (at least according to the questionable tach) if its being bitchy or cold...

Well I checked everything and nothing has been moved or anything.
Looks like it will just have to stay that way....

And the speed is correct now! Its soo odd..... for 3 wks it was wrong, and then all the sudden its working great!

Well it stalled out on me twice so I guess I better look into this more~

Each time It stalled was when I would downshift comming to a stop- I would leave second into neutral- rpms would go from 2k down to 1k, then to 400rpm- wtf.

maby with the slightly leaky vaccume lines you were talking about you had the idle set to where it would idle like normal, then you replaced them with good lines and now that the engine has 0 leaks it is probably ideling at what it should be at with no leaks, just play with your idle adjustment screw and bump it up, easy as that.

Ok now its dying at every stop- really bad thing-
Ive gone over everything twice, cleaned the whole engine bay/motor with simple green and water-

I really need to figure this out soon....

The hesitation went away, so thats cool.....
