Hole in exhaust on purpose?

Ok... so I NEVER remember to ask this, but my dad keeps nagging me to find out why there is a hole in my custom exhaust. We bought the car this way, and it's weird, because there is a hole that looks like it was purposefully drilled up near the cat.

Dad stuck a bolt into it this weekend, cuz it's been driving him nuts, since it makes the exhaust louder.

I told him he may as well get used to it, though, since I plan to sell this exhaust system and get something louder! (Apexi N1 system... *evil grin*)

Lemme know some feedback, so I can let my dad know, and he'll leave me alone about it. I've had the car for over a year and a half, and he still brings it up whenever he's helping me work on my car.

What kinda car do ya have? It could be the pipe that goes back to the EGR valve, but its just not hooked up.

Dad just informed me that it is before the last cat... but it did feel like it has threads when he put the bolt in.

is your air/polutions pump still working? if it is then u definitely need that pipe that goes to the egr valve. if not then i would add block off plates and just block that hole sumhow.

If its what rexaholic is sort of talking about then its the split air pipe for the auxilary port activation and not the egr valve. Every pre-silencer that I have seen with the split air pipe always had a pipe welded on that led back up to the engine bay, it was never just a hole so you could attach a pipe... weird.

The egr is still there, it's actually a hole drilled into the very bottom of the tube between the second and third cats.
