Me and Bob put in my rebuild today and we just cant get the transmission mount bolts mount in?? Any tips??? Seems like we tried just about every combination of raising/lowering to align the holes, but they are not aligning well? We're stumped.

I have a 90 MTX with new Mazda Trans mount and new Y-rubber isolators.

 

Put a screwdriver in one of the two holes and pry crossmember over aligning hole next to it up. Go deep in hole to not damage threads.

 

^ that is how I did my trans-swap when the bolts where not going in right.

Are you guys doing the work off the floor or on a rack?

because i use the same trick, lower the crossmember down a little and just start the bolts by finger helps as well until you get all 4 in and started.

 

first make sure that you didn't screw up the threads in the frame
Then grab your floor jack and jack the trans up(at the body),and loosen the crossmember enough so that it will wiggle.That allows you to align the holes.
The trans will go up just a BIT further and you can get the bolts and crossmember situated,tighten a touch and then lower the jack.
Tighten down all bolts.(especially the ones you loosened up!)

 

All these tricks I've tried already, so I guess all I just need to do is keep working at it. I raised the car a little higher so I can move a little better now. Thanks.

 

then the threads might need to be chased out. you also still have the original cone nosed bolts i hope? they are also very helpful in getting the bolts started, if you're using generic 14mm bolts with no step then it will be very difficult to get them started.

 

Took a couple days off and tried it tonight and the bolts went right in. No prying, no nothin'. Weird.

I know, rare, but it does happen. I kept working after that because that mount went in so easy.

 

Damn right it happens!..
I've been through it,ya just get "tunnel visioned" into the task and the easiest thing is turned into a Freakin Fiasco!
You take a break,look at it,,come back and BOOM..WTF?..it can't be that easy?..YEP!..
Rare case of Rx7 Fever..lol!..My DR. prescribed alcohol and sex for it but I said "hey.let's just keep this on a professional level...Besides..your a Guy..and I ain't into that!"!.....LOL!
