HKS TO4E turbo upgrade?
How many of you guys are using the HKS turbo upgrade kit (TO4E with internal wastegate)?
What do you think of it?
Does the turbo fit on the factory manifold or not?
I've found the turbo with the internal wastegate for cheap secondhand and I am wondering if its worth getting?
thanks
Daniel

I picked mine up for $250.. That is what they go for.(250-350)
You will need a Manifold.. it will not bolt on to the stock manifold..
So is anyone actually running this turbo? i would like to see a dyno plot or atleast talk to someone who has run it..

If you are like me and not a mechanic and just looking for better then stock performance it's a good deal. I use it and my 300BHP feels great on the street. It's not a RIPOFF Sure the gearheads among us can find better deals, but I wanted a complete package a couple of years ago when my stock turbo malfunctioned and in doing so cracked my manifold. The HKS SPORT TURBO UPGRADE KIT was a pretty good purchase It all depends on the application you plan to run? It may not put out enough horsepower for you It does for me.

It's a rip-off cause if all you want is 300hp, I'd recommend big compressor upgrade.  With the right fuel and tuning, it'll produce the same kind of numbers that HKS T04E at half the price.
I can put together a T04 kit that uses the $250 HKS manifold for about the same price that'll produce 400hp.  This is not my prices - anyone can do this.  $1,000 TS04 from http://www.turbos.com/, $250 HKS manifold from RX-7 Store, $200 downpipe adapter from the muffler shop, $200 in oil lines and fittings, $200 in intercooler pipes and adapters....that's a 400hp set-up.

REted, All of the steps you just said comes from your different contacts, At the time I purchased, I did not have contacts and I wanted my car to run NOW not after rounding up the various discount connections to make one cheap bargain product Granted your Idea is good, but some of us have JOBS not in the automotive field so therefore we buy expensive kit's that will have our sportscar passion running NOW! So respect your other forum members and stop trying to make us feel as though we have been RIPPED OFF!

Um, no - ANYONE ca get these prices.
http://www.turbos.com/ - $1,000 TS04 turbo
RX-7 Store carries the HKS turbo exhaust manifold for $251
Downpipe adapter - any muffler shop will gladly take your money to make a piece of pipe about 6" long.
Intercooler piping can be made from cheap steel muffler shop pipes and silicon adapters you can get from Baker Precision - http://www.bakerprecison.com/
This really has nothing to do with my "contacts" or my connections - if it were, I could knock the price off by half.
I can understand the need for a complete "kit" for most enthusiasts.  Most FC owners don't have a few thousand dollars to spend on an HKS turbo kit, so I have presented an economical option...

what did it include?
the basic procedure is straightforward: remove stock turbo and manifold. Install new turbo and manifold. Connect downpipe. You don't even have to deal with an external wastegate in this case. Connect intercooler piping (you may have to fabricate something to make it all fit). Connect oil lines, or fabricate some. Block off coolant lines if this turbo does not need them. Use a split-air pipe blockoff plate for the feed line and just rubber cap with hose clamp for the return line. Then hook up your boost controller using its own instructions.
What are your specific questions?

If you just bought the one in the FS section, then it actually has an external WG with the recirculated dump-tube and HKS down-pipe? Either way, should be straight-forward if you know anything about turbo's or turbo-cars. Maybe post pics of the kit after you've gotten it and people can then help you out with the specifics?
