HKS BOV question!!

I'm gonna have my RB 3" downpipe installed soon and also going to remove my cat in place for a 3" midpipe and I was wondering if the HKS super sequential blow off valve would be worth buying. How about the sound it makes? Good, nice, ok,,,what? Right now, the car's only running about 6 psi? Also, anybody have any idea how much boost it would be after the exhaust installation?

Thanks!

I would port the wastegate so you won't get any boost creep, and I would save the money for a good cat-back to complete your system before you get the BOV

Hey Vosko.. What's the best Boost controller for the buck?? I don't want anything fancy as long as it does the job. Where can I get it? It's also on my list of things to buy..Hopefully, soon!...

In response to the HKS SS BOV, it sounds pretty sweet. It wistles real loud, and supposedly due to its design it can't leak. I have one on my car. You'll be getting about 10-12 lbs with that setup, and probably nasty boost creep if you don't port the wastegate on an 88 turbo. It's time to be thinking of fuel mods too...

Thanks for the replies guys.. The reason I asked if it sounds good on the 7 is because my younger bro just got his today for his WRX and I really like the design. I never seen one up close before. After installing it outside in very cold weather, I love the sound it makes. It so sweeeett!

I would suggest getting the fuel mod along with the exhaust. Although the fuel mod really don't give you more power they are the most important mod you will do to your car. It will keep those apex seals in the 3 peices they came with.

I'm ready to order the Walbro fuel pump but other than that, I have no idea what else to get.. I'm kinda just started learning about my car eventhough this is my second FC in about 4 yrs. Also, I was planning on getting all the things in one shot. Any other stuff I need to buy in reference to doing the fuel mod? Thanks!

actually the HKS BOV isn't such a bad idea, but not right away. Get boost cntrol, port the wastegate hole for sure, but definately upgrade the stock bov. If you don't do that and you run too much boost you will run into compressor surge(very bad on turbo) the tiny stock bov doesn't let out enough air at a time to keep up with a lot of boost.

i think boost creep means like when on like full throttle, boost shoots up real high maybe around 13-14 psi and then drop back to normal level (maybe 10psi)

hks bov is sweet, my roomate has it in his 240sx, and the tone is pretty high pitch...like (pew..pew..pew.pew)

and i heard that most stock bov will do the job just fine unless u boosting like 20 or 30 psi

for my car i have the dp mp (2.5in) ,n1 catback and the turbo xs MBC, didn't port wastegate ...no creep though, constant 0.7 bar boost, not fuel mod yet, have been runing this setup almost a year, been driving it pretty hard lately also, no problem yet

and oh yeah i have the old blix bov also, sounds pretty sweet, Whooshuuu!!!!!!
sorry if i am a ricer or whatever, but my bov sound really makes me feel or think like my car is faster...hahahah

Hey, I know what you mean when you said the BOV sound makes you feel your car is faster than it really is....hahaha! Don't worry, I'm sure most, if not all, feel the same way including myself.. Actually, I think my bro's WRX picks up speed a bit faster in between shifts after installing his HKS bov.. Oh well, I'll just see what happens to mine..
