Higher Octane??

Hey just a quick question to shut someone up or shut myself up!

i was always under the inpression from thing i read on different articles and specially this forum that higher Octane burns slower/needs more compression to ignite

however recently someone in the automotive busness (whos mechanicle expertise is questionable) argued that i had miinterpreted this information and that higher octane burns quicker and takes less compression to ignite??

can anyone quickly answer this

Thanks

Higher octane burns slower. It has a higher flashpoint.

Octane is a measure of compressability before pre-ignition.. Higher octane has a slower flame front, and can be compressed more before spontaneous combustion. Ultimately, for performance, you want the lowest Octane rating you can run SAFELY..

That means 87 on N/A cars, and 91 on boosted cars.

Yep, octane rating has nothing to do with heat, speed, anything like that. Octane ratings are only relevent to ANTI KNOCK INDEX AKI raiting of 87, 89, 93, etc...

GET IT RIGHT PPL!!! Look on the labels on the gas pumps!!!
