CA High Revving Idle no gas needed, Tach at 0rpm

okay, so earlier i posted that i changed my chassis harness on my GTU and then the car wasnt starting, at first i put the battery backwards yes a very stupid mistake, so i took off the battery , charged it then put it correctly, car wasnt starting i noticed i blew a main fuse so i replaced it took off the dash went threw all my fuses and they were 100% so i went threw every plug and bam!!!!! one wasnt connected by the ignition. So i started my fc and damn it revved high and blew out white smoke (didnt have the tach on, and my car never did that prior) so i turned it off the car connected the tach on, started it up again and high *** rev, my tach went up to 7k and down to zero so my buddy told me to wiggle the key a little tach arranged itself and revolutions were at 7k blowing out white smoke, anybody have any idea what could have happened? many have told me it was the ecu??? any ideas? i would greatly appreciate the help thanks

okay so i solved the problem there
there were wires that were cut by the trailing coil so i crimped them together and the car started without white smoke so i was happy. But still my headlights are not working and my car is revving high when i start it and leave it on idol I drove it around the block and i didnt even need to press the gas the car was just revving and the tach was acting up bad it was at 0rpms all the way it wasn't safe to drive so i parked it in my driveway so anyone have any idea?.

before i swapped the chassis harness my tach was working and the car would not act up like that
so should i try a new ecu??????
any suggestion i would greatly appreciate them

I'd guess that you have a wiring problem, possibly in your chassis harness.

Check your wiring, and connections.

I might actually try swapping out the Trailing coil. That seems to be the leading cause of no tach.

Check this out!

I really hope whatever wire you crimped, wasn't the tach out put and I hope you didn't ground it.

Huh, looks ok. I would grab a multimeter and test your coils anyway. It won't hurt.

No, that would have just blown your main fuse (referring to the battery situation). A multimeter is a tool used to check currents and outputs. You can pick a cheap one up at sears for 20 or so. I wouldn't get a really expensive one but I would say not to buy the cheapie either, they do come in handy! Try even check your local automotive store, they may have some to rent if you don't want to buy.

okay got it ill look into the multi-meter
and see whats up with my trailing coil

so could that be the reason its idling high?
and my tach is not reading?"

Its probably the reason your tach is dead. I'm not sure about high idle, that may be another issue, but lets get your tach up and running again and then we'll deal with the idle.

The tach signal comes off the trailing coil.

The trail coil will not work if one of the sparkplugs is fouled real bad.

The trail coil will not work if one of the three wires from it to the ECU is corrupt/broken/open.

The tach signal leaves the trail coil on a yellow/blue wire. That yellow/blue wire is splicedtotheblackbulletconnectoratthetrailcoilneve rgroundthatblackbulletconnectorbecauseitisatestcon nectorforatroubleshootingtach.

The ECU is not the high rev problem nor the tach problem. Your rewire is possibly the problem. But we don't even know what series car or if non turbo or Turbo.

The white smoke indicates, possibly that the oil control rings are kaput in the engine. Just a possibility.

Invest in a haynes or FS manual. They are priceless.

Should be under the electrical section. I'm not familiar with the FSM. I would also check Ignition if you can't find it. It'll show you procedures on how to test it.
