Question High Rev Alarm

I own a 1987 Non-Turbo RX7. Anytime you rev the engine over about 6800rpm an annoying alarm goes off. Does anyone know an easy way to disable it? I owned a 1983 RX7 (bought new) and it never did this.

why would you want to disable this? its great for racing, you don't have to look at the tach, just shift when the buzzer goes off

Dont disable it. It is also the buzzer that goes off when something is wrong with the coolant.

I dont know why anybody would want to disable it. It tells you when to shift when you are racing unless you bring it up to redline every gear then it might get annoying.

If you really must know the buzzer is in the instrument cluster and can easily be removed with a soidering iron.

That's because the redline is 200rpm later! When you here it, shift up. If it's on long enough to annoy you, you need to review your driving style.

If you really want to disable it, you can take off the instrument cluster and poke the speaker out.

You don't to disable it. It reports over-rev, low coolant, and low oil.

Taking a screw driver to it just makes sure you won't know if an oil line or coolant line breaks until it is way too late.

I have seen one or two RX-7's that had bad warning buzzers. Radio Shack has a buzzer that's easy to install in the stock cluster, and sounds JUST like the stock buzzer.

Thanks for all of the driving advice. I owned an '83 RX7 (bought new) for 14 years. It ran its best when pushed to around 7500-8000 RPMs in 1st thru 3rd gears. The rotary engine was designed for high revs. When I sold it, it still had the original clutch and exhaust system (minus the cat). The only engine work done on it was I rebuilt the Nikki Carb. The ones that included useful info, I appreciate it.
