High oil pressure problem

Hey so after winter storage and some tinkering, I'm having a high oil pressure problem.

It's running about 4kg/cm2 at 1000rpm idle (ignore the high idle please), and increases to about 4.5 or 5kg/cm when givin some throttle.

Now normally its starts cold in this range and comes down when it has warmed up, but this is not the case at the moment, even warm it stays just under 4kg/cm2.

I have a hunch the factory gauge/wiring/or sending unit may be bad so I am going to hook up an independent gauge to it and check.

But in the mean time does anyone have any ideas why this might be the case?

If its topped out, it could be a dead short near the connector

It's pretty common to have malfunctioning oil pressure gauages in our cars.

It's usually the sending unit, not the gauge.

The gauge is screwed if the wire is grounded for too long... Correct?

I'm not saying that this is necessarily your issue... But there was a case where a guy accidentally pinched the wire between the block and transmission, causing it to ground out. His gauge read the maximum pressure. If it is grounded for too long... It WILL completely damage the gauge.

Yes. the gauge ends up reading wrong and then needs to be replugged if it shorts. because it changes the needle position on the post.
