High Idle When Cold

S4 NA

No, this isn't the AWS system. My car will idle at about 1500 when cold, and eventually drop down to 800. While it's idling high, if I start to drive it, taking my foot off the gas has does not slow down the car, it feels like I'm driving an automatic.

Is this normal?

Stuck fast idle cam/thermowax? If idle eventually falls to 800, you gotta assume the basic mechanical idle adjustments are good...

Yea, that's about how my car is. If it starts at 1500 & drops to 750 or so, it's working fine. While it's turning over 1500 or so, there's a good deal of power going to the rear end. When mine's cold, it'll keep rolling at a good clip because of the higher idle.

Summary: If yours is broken, then mine's broken too.

Thanks, thought it might be a bigger problem, it's just annoying having the rev's not drop at all for about 5 seconds after I press the clutch..., and it does that for about 5 minutes.

Sounds normal to me. When shifting if the engine is cold it feels "clunky" because the revs aren't dropping rapidly enough and you can never seem to match them.

I have had exactly the same experience with the 'vert. I usually just let her warm up in the drive before I head out.
