i thought after a VERY thorough check i had no vacuum leaks. but couldnt figure out what my idle problem was. so i got a rubber cap for my intake and put a air fitting on there so i can pressure test my entire system. and i found a bunch of leaks that would of never been found just by inspecting it...i say do this before ruling out vacuum leaks al together.

then of course, the TPS will cause this.

you pressure test it with the car off, this way you can hear the air escaping loud and clear.

its easy. just get a cap from hope depot. put a air fitting in that and cap your intake. then lower your compressor to 10lbs and force air in. then either listen or use soapy water to find leaks.

done.

Anytime Bruce. For those having similar problems, This is what I checked. First I tried to lower the idle via the Bypass Air Control Valve, that didn't work so I tuned in the Throttle position senson, ran a little better not surging, but still a little high. I checked the throttle cable and the fast Idle on the Throttle body and those turned out to be fine, as well as the dashpot. I went next to the crank angle sensor to check the timing. I was about 7-10 degrees advance from top Dead center. I retarted the timing to tdc, however in doing so the lock bolt was no longer lined up to I had to pull out the CAS put the motor back to TDC and reset it so that when the CAS was adjusted to tdc, the locking bolt would be in place. This took me a few trts, but I got it. After this I adjusted the TPS once again, and hooked up the Mazda code checker (S3-S4) to see if there were any other problems. After this it ran at about 1100. I mentioned to Bruce that some of the emmisions he had removed might be the cause of this high idle problem. Well all in all 1100 idle is better than 1500. Hopefully I can get it back down when he brings it back in for a wastegate porting and a FMIC install.
