High idle

I have an '87 T2. My idle is somewhat erratic, dithering around 1,500 RPM. When I adjusted the idle to about 800 rpm, the engine dies. I can smell fuel, so I believe the engine is operating very rich. When the pulsation dampner was replaced, the tech told me that the injectors were looking old and one had a crack; I believe the crack would be the fuel I am smelling. My oil comsumption is about one quart evey 3,000 miles.

What do you guys believe the possible cause to the high, erratic idle is? If the cracked injector is damaged to the point where it is leaking fuel into the rotor, should I would suspect the extra fuel to be choking the engine? I just don't want to replace the injectors to find another item(s) to be at fault, but I plan to replace the injectors soon enough.

did u adjust the idle via the screw on the BAC valve? or the one on the strut tower?

also, have you recently replaced and/or adjusted the TPS? that will also cause a funny idle if its not set properly...

I adjusted the BAC, without the jumper in place. I just now received the the shop manual, and I see that a jumper needs to be in place. I feel that the jumper will not resolve the issues I have.

I havn't adjusted the TPS, but I'll be on my to-do list.

I feel my car isn't in the greatest condition, so I'm resolving many issues that have compounded. I need to get a new DVM, to check the resistance values of the electronical monster.

Many thanks for the reply!
