HIGH HP guys and turbo exhaust- powdercoating question
Im taking my intake manifolds/ some brackets ect to a local powder coater for my turbo vr6...I have this bad *** trust exhaust thats been sitting and im thinking about having it Coated in a high temp powder coat from the Downpipe back...I know coating turbo mani's are pretty much useless because it bakes off...
Any one know if 12-1500 degrees powdercoat will hold up from the downpipe back? Not sure if its a waste of cash, Im just being picky lol

I've seen powder coating come off exhaust manifolds. Its all in the quality of the stuff used and hows its prepped/done. If its done poorly, the end result will be that way. I don't see why it wouldn't hold up to exhaust temp though considering what people normally used powdercoating for.

Ceramic coating. I know of n/a cars having it done inside and outside of headers. There is a chance of it coming off if not done properly, so I do not know about having it done pre-turbo. I sure you could have a high temp powder put over the top to have any color you want.

there is a ceramic coating used inside aeroplane turbine engines, i was recommended this by a local company that does alot of industrial coatings. think they named it as a special blended zircona...about 100usd for the manifold and downpipe, good discount since he is friend of a friend.

or for a cheap option the VHT flame proof ceramic spray on 2000F paint actually does quite well, for $9.
but as said it's all about the prep and the material you are spraying on.
i have tested/used it on cast iron manifolds that were degreased and bead blasted and the coating actually holds up very well for a cheap alternative. i would not use it on smooth surfaces like stainless steel manifolds or downpipes though as nothing will really stick to those surfaces and where heat wraps come in. it also works well as a filler for parts that were previously ceramic coated that the coating chipped off while working on the car.
up to 1700F it did not peel off or bake off like the spray on paints from several years ago. the only downside is it comes off very easily with alcohol.
tested on cars pushing anywhere from stock-500whp the coating usually lasted several years, the same went for the professional ceramic baked on coatings we tested.

Another option is POR-20. It's a 2000 degree paint from the POR-15 people. Totally clean and then media blast the manifold, follow the application instructions then bake it on. A few years ago I did a stock FC manifold and turbine housing and it's still looking great to this day. And that includes running the manifold/turbine orange hot for the first hour or so while we troubleshot and found the CAS was one tooth retarded.
