HID Kits?
HID Kits?
Searched and didn't really find the answer I needed.
What kit should we use for our cars, like H4 conversion or Bi-Xenon? Not really sure what kit to get. Also, where is a good place online to purchase them? I have heard a lot of bad things about some of the websites.

well you need h4 housings, and then just a regular kit from xenon will work. if you ont have any housings yet i have heard some really good things about autopal, fairly cheap and about as good as hella. the e code autopals have a really sharp cutoff so the light wont just go everywhere. i bought my kif for like around 100 dollars and it works fine. i dont remember from where though, it was a xenon knock off.
Bi-xenon in a good housing is what your going to want i guess, it doesnt have the greatest cutoff and there is some glare. Frankly your just better off with a good h4 housing and good bulbs, way better than stock. HID ends up blinding other drivers with glare from the housings not being designed for the different light pattern of HID's. If you want the best setup your going to want to do a projector retrofit, theres a thread around here somewhere. Youll get excellent cutoff and an excellent beam pattern, dont buy those ebay housings that look like projectors, theyre **** and dont work.
also search around theres a thread in non-tech and pictures section with lots of pictures of the various setups and cutoffs.

bi xenon in a good h4 housing (hella, autopal, cibie, raybrig) is gonna be the best short of a projector retrofit.
I've been waiting almost a month for my hella ecode housings. Apparently they have been out of stock in all the us

Thanks. I wasn't really sure what I would need. I knew the H4 was really common nad so was Bi-Xenon. What's the difference between the 2 anyway? I saw the non tech pic thread but it didn't really answer what I was trying to find out.
bixenon gives you a high beam and a low beam, the other type are just high beam.
Bi-Xenon is hi/low HID's while H4 is the type of Halogen bulb used in the composite conversion. Bi-Xenon means both hi and low beams are HID, not to be confused with a Hi/Low kit which is just HID low beams and halogen hi beams. As said it is not recommended to use HID's in H4 style housings as they were not designed for the light pattern. However, if you insist on going this route, Hella or Cibie's are the housings to get.

What they ^ said. Just aim the cut-off those housing do provide a little extra low and you'll be fine.

While I have no behind the driver's seat experience with either kit. I feel that this kit (and other real HID kits) is the only alternative to the stock setup. The h4 housing ~$100 kits are going to blind other drivers while you may not care if the other person is blind. One day you will when the driver either hits you, goes off the road, or turns around and kicks your ***. (Here we have those type of people.) Not only are you going to blind others but the light output while, yes, brighter is worse.

It's not the kit that contributes to the blinding, it's the housing. I can run a $30 HID kit in a good projector housing and it will look factory. As a matter of fact, I just put a set of 4300K Bi-Xenon HID's in my Kia today and it looks as factory as older Maxima's, newer Altima's, Infiniti's, Lexus', any car that came factory HID with no projectors. My kit is also true Bi-Xenon and it cost me under $100 shipped

What kit should we use for our cars, like H4 conversion or purple headlights ? Not really sure what kit to get. Also, where is a good place online to purchase them? I have heard a lot of bad things about some of the websites.

Optics and reflector design matters much more than just brightness.
HIDextra . com sells on this forum. Theyre in the vendor classifieds. Ive bought 6 kits from them and Michelle, thier customer service rep., is a pleasure to deal with. Thier kits are also true plug-n-play and super easy to install.

4300K is pure white and the ideal for most useable light output. OEM HID's use 4300K Phillips D2S bulbs. I think that 5000K would be the limit I would go. It will be more blue than 4300K but I don't think it would be by much. Personally, 6000K is too blue to me and 8000K is WAY too blue and has worse useable light than Halogens. As said before though, if you want the best HID kit out there, get the set from Sakebomb Garage. FX45 Bi-Xenon projectors using Phillips D2S bulbs and aftermarket ballasts. There's an interest thread in the vendor section under FDNewbie. I would get them in a heartbeat, I just don't have the money for them at the moment
