hi quick question about trans

i have a 1990 gxl 5spd will it bolt up to a 86 na without issues and , how hard is it to swap out a trans . i've never done it ?is it nessacary to pull the motor ?plz let me know guys . thanks

the tranny will bolt up just fine to your car swapping the tranny isnt hard at all. you dont need to pull the motor, it can be done fairly quickly, but you will have to remove the center section of your exhaust to get at it.

They have different crossmember tranny mounts. Use the one from the '90 and you're good.

There's a write up in the Archives about how to do it.

Umm.. I might be way out of my league here, but that swap isnt quite as easy as that. I believe there is an issue of driveshaft length, etc...

Driveshafts for 5 spd N/A's all the same. Use the trans crossmember from the 1990. Crossmember needs to stay with the trans when S5 to S4 or visa versa.
Not difficult, but that trans is heavy, and you'll need an additional jack to keep under the engine.
