Hey guys!

Quick question, can over filling oil in your rotary cause lack of power when you put it on heavy load?? also not redlining?

How much over fill? Most people don't put in enough to begin with.

putting 5 quarts in generally does the trick because you can't get the last 1.1 quarts out of the oil cooler.

no overfilling is not going to cause a loss of power. there is no "crankcase" per say in a rotary so there is nothing sloshing in the oil in the pan.

I don't think overfilling the oil could cause a loss of power, but you're going to do yourself some damage if you filled it enough that your oil pressure get too high. Luckily, you have a gauge for that, so check it.

Okay, where exactly are you losing power? Is it just not making power like it should, or does it feel like you're hitting a brick wall at certain RPMs?

There's a lot of misinformation here.

First, oil level does not have anything to do with oil pressure. As long as the pump can pick up oil, the pressure will be set by the speed of the engine and the oil pressure regulator.

Second, nothing horrible will happen if you overfill the engine. Since there isn't an issue with windage in the rotary, a bit more oil is not an issue. I generally over fill by about a quart so I don't have to add oil between changes.

Third, you can end up frothing up the oil with the oil pump drive chain if you overfill. Usually this isn't much of an issue since the pickup is at the bottom of the pan.

Clogged cats was already mentioned.

What happens when you loose power? You need to be very specific regarding the symptoms.
