help! will this work?

...because im not so sure. it seems stupid to me but anyway...ive been searching and asking around and no one has given me any better ideas yet.

ok i will include my cool sketch below. would it work to use hose to hook up to the cat? (where red arrows are) i know it was and probably should be welded back...i was worried about heat but i took the thing out and drove it pretty hard for ahile and came back and the area didnt seem too hot at all. thats what im really worried about is the heat. has anyone done this, or damn i know most of u have better sense than me if its even a good idea? im still kinda thinking no, but thought i would ask...

i cant find a write up or anyhting which is why im so lost on this. and i cant find anyone to tell me how they did it or how to do it or anything...

Thats the tube that comes forward and up to the lower intake to supply pressure to the auxilary port actuators, right? Is yours broken and you want to use a rubber hose to bridge the gap?

no i just installed a high flow cat and looking for a quick way to get it reconnected. it also sits back a little farther so theres a small gap. if a hose will work its an easy solution, otherwise i have to take it somewhere i guess and get it welded in.

I think a hose would work, but I don't know from personal experience. Hook it up with a hose and go drive for 20 minutes. Then let us know how it works. Worse case scenario is that the hose comes off or melts and your auxilary ports don't open up. You'll notice the lack of performance about 3500 RPMs if the auxilary ports stay closed.

actually this morning i DID test it out, like i said it doesnt seem to get too hot. i made sure before going out the ports are working. i notice a TON more power and response without the old cats in there and i used to just get a complete drop in power at 7000 now i can go to 8 just fine pulling all the way. also did this to blow out any **** that maye be in there. i did drive it pretty hard about 15-20 minutes and it seemed fine. im either gonna still just take it in somwhere, otherwise depending on what i hear from people just leave it in and see how it holds up, at least long enough so i can pass freakin emissions finally.

Hose works fine. CATCO usually issues a piece of BLUE hose with their non turbo cats. Use clamps also.

take it to an exhaust shop and have it welded, that area is too hot for a rubber hose to survive.

thanks for the input guys...while the hose seems to work fine i just think im gonna have to spend a few bucks to get it done right so i will bill able to rest easy.

by the way what i tried was silicone hose. i know it does good with heat because its leftover from what i have in my 3rd gen...but **** i still dont really trust that with the heat of rotary exhaust.

that's the way i see it, the hoses some cat suppliers supply is usually a high temp silicone hose which is not readily available just anywhere. having it welded will give you a long living result without worry.

i used a standard heater hose for the cat i put on for emissions purposes and i could smell the rubber burning off of it when i shut the car off. i didn't care about it at the time since it was only temporary but if i were to keep the cat on then i would have welded the extension pipe in place.

hose connection

We installed a Bonez Free flow cat and cut the existing bolted flange off of the air puipe and then used silicon hose with clamps. Thats how the instructions tell you to do it. its been this way for two years and works great.

You can also go to local plumbing shop and get 1/2"swedge fittings and attach it that way.

this is all you need, i have also had that cat. it comes with a 6in. piece of fuel line style hose, it holds up just fine. fyi, that pipe has nothing to do with the 6ports or vdi.

go to the parts store. i work at a carquest store and we sell an 'air tube repair kit' it has a section of pipe with flanges, and a high temp hose and clamps.

if they dont know what your talking about, tell them to go in the back and look by the exhaust hangers and clamps
