help! vibrations!

yo,

ok so i have about 3k miles on my 9.4:1 TII engine now, and i still havent figured out how to get rid of this damn ****in vibration I have. basically it intermittently vibrates at all rpms, beign the worst at about 2-3k. but sometimes it doesnt. also my idle is jumpy, always has been.

what i've tried:
removed all emissions
removed bac and ps solenoid
replaced all vac hoses
new plugs
tried 2 different sets of plug wires (but not new ones, having trouble finding ngks around here)
gutted both cats, replaced mufflers with glass packeds
FD fuel pump
threw in a spare fuel filter i had laying around that flowed well.
compression is perfectly even on all faces. my tester is not very accurate, but i estimate 100 psi x6
redid engine grounds (not ecu grounds tho..yet)
replaced leading coil with a spare
replaced cooling fan with a spare
set TPS (only once tho)
cone filter

thats all i can think of right now

thanks for helping

supposedly they are the same between NA and TII, if not then no. i used all TII parts except the rotors.
however, i dont think that its a balance thing, because as far as i can tell, a balance thign would be the same all the time, not differing at different times like this.

the car also vibrates like a bitch at over 90-100 mph, but i think this is unrelated, probably the driveshaft or a broken belt in one of my tires. the car sat for a year before i bought it and rebuilt the engine.

hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the front counterweight is different between the T2 & N/A rotors, if that is the prob, it's natural that the vibration would get worse at the higher RPMs.

well...i kinda hope youre right..thatd be easy to fix..or relatively easy anyway...but..the vibration does not get worse at high rpms...it is worst at 2-3k, then gets a bit better after that. but it doesnt do it all the time..someitmes i go somewhere and it runs great, sometimes it vibrates all over the place.

one way to check at this time would be to go to the Mazdatrix website & look up the counterweight p/n's in the engine parts section- if they are two different p/n's, then that could be your problem...good luck...

My car has a similar problem. Mine does it worst at around 5k rpm's. It's an interesting problem because it's localized at a certain point. It's like a rough patch, I can keep it at the same rpm and it will shake as long as I hold it there, if I go above or below the area it will run smoothly... Very odd. I've been suggested: bad grounds, bad igniton, bad spark, bad flywheel, detonation, bad water pump, bad fan... So yeah, I'm kinda with you...

When my transmission went out, it vibrated very badly at those RPMs. Sorry to confuse the issue more.

mines had that also, i changed the power steering fluid and it stopped. did your cars when really cold make a funny noise when moving the steering wheel?? if this was the case, then check that fluid and get it replaced

does it vibrate under acceleration and/or while in neutral?

if so you may have a miss aligned tranny cross member which happens offten when its installed wrong....

vibrates with clutch in or out, in any gear. it is somewhat worse when accelerating, but not much. no ps or ac or airpump. i tried switching alternators..no difference.

O.K., patman, the counterweight for the 86-88 cars (T2 and N/A) is the same, p/n N326-1100-D61A, BUT, if you used the 89-92 rotors, those will have a different counterweight (assuming the base engine is 86-88 here)

I got an idea....

Maybe your clutch fan isn't bolted down all the way. Sounds stupid huh.....Mine was off a little once and the whole engine vibrated like crazy. I noticed it because I was looking at something in the front and saw the fan blades moving back and forth ever so slightly.

What about your water pump? Grab it and make sure the water pump internal shaft isn't worn and loose. If its causing the vidration it will definately move a little side to side.

You fuel pump, well you could take out the fuel pump and make sure the strainer is free of debri. And look inside and see whether or not that the bottem of the tank doesn't have debri, like rust goop or whatever.

i cleaned the strainer when i replaced the pump. the car sat for a year b4 i bought it, so the tank did have a bit of rust in it, but only a very small amount... none of it was floating around..seemed like it was all still attached to the tank...as soon as i have enough time to tear apart he intake manifolds i will remove the injectors and test and clean them.

i will ceck the waterpump for play tomorrow.

thanks for the idea.
