Help with turbo spool and parts.

Hello all.. I'm putting together a single turbo build and I need some advice/help.

First off I have a turbonetics 62-1 journal bearing turbo with a .96 hotside..
I was wondering because of the journal bearing is my turbo response going to be laggy?? What kind of boost can I expect at 4000 rpm?? I'd really hate to put this all together and have a laggy *** setup.

Secondly what parts am I missing out on??

Here's my list of mods.

1987 S4 Turbo II
S5 Turbo II motor and trans.
Street port
Power Steering, Air pump, Cruise control, and AC Removed
ACV EGR valve Block off plates

HKS Light weight flywheel
ACT clutch
4inch DP and exhaust
720 CC primary
1400CC secondaries
Greddy RS BOV

Turbonetics 62-1 .96 hotside
XS power exhaust manifold
HKS External wastegate
Microtech lt-8

Greddy front mount
KOYO radiator
fuel pressure regulator
oil pressure regulator
MSD 6a
Walbro 255s

No. If it's laggy it will be due to a poor tune or because you're just too goddamn impatient.

Probably close to full boost if not all the way there, but I'm saying this only going off what I hear from other guys around here with aftermarket turbos.

It sounds like you have the HKS log manifold knock off and an undivided hotside. That is not a good combination for spool. I say that from personal experience. I had a real HKS log and a 60-1 T04S with .96 undivided hotside. It will be pretty dead at part throttle, especially cruising in higher gears. Find something twin scroll (divided hotside and divided manifold). You'll be glad you did. Check out these tests Mazda did:

What boost controller will you be running? That's also a key ingredient to spool.

I'm planning on using an Apexi AVC-R.. def one of the best controllers out there.

Arghx I can understand that chart... but than again do you think mazda did these tests with mods?? For example I'm sure my streetport and microtech would def make a huge difference in spool time...

My only fear is that I'll waste my money putting in this 62-1 journal and hating the spool time... instead of just selling it and finding a BB 67..

You will find that a twin scroll setup will make a bigger difference than a ball bearing turbo.
