The key on the shaft does not line up with the timing mark on the block? I didn't know there was a mark on the block for this, can someone confirm
I know TDC is the key at -90 degrees if you are looking at the motor straight at the motor. Or essentially the key is facing the left side of the engine when looking at it.
But that's not really the way it's done for our home rebuilds because we don't have gigantic precision compasses/angle indicators.

With the front cover on, you align the yellow mark of the pulley to the pin indicator. Then you stab the CAS with the marks aligned on the gear and shaft (2 little dots). DONE. your timing is aligned.

Question

When you insert the cast the gears casuse it to turn a bit. My question is do you turn it back to line up the tooth gear in the cast with the magnetic pick up or do you just leave it?

What page of the ENGINE section of the FSM are you talking about? and what series FSM are you reading? The attached page is out of the series five ENGINE section.

Your hi jacking another persons thread. But, here is all you do: Align the mark on the bottom of the CAS gear with the fixed mark on the body of the CAS.

With the black, flat top cover off the CAS, observe a moving part of the shaft (like a *gear* tooth, with a fixed place inside the CAS (while holding the CAS with the matching marks on the bottom of the CAS aligned).

Then stab the CAS into the engine. Then look at the fixed mark inside the top cover and see if it's still aligned with the moving part (like a *gear* tooth) on the shaft. Not aligned? Then rotate the body of the CAS til they align. Done (except now you take a timing light and finish the timing with the engine HOT).

Attached is a jpg of the CAS with top cover off. Pay no attention to any words etc on the jpg. They were meant for another post. The CAS in the jpg is not aligned for installation.

When the matching marks on the bottom of the CAS aligned for installation, you'll find one of the two top *teeth* of the *gear*, will cut across the corner of the black, square, reluctor/coil.
