help with starter hardware

I did some searches and cant find what size the bolt that goes in through the right side of the starter is. Not the real long one on the left but the shorter one on the right. it seems to be the only one that has a different thread pitch than the rest. I found one thread on this forum that said it was "course" but thats all it said. Anyone know what length and thread pitch of this bolt is?

yep, because it is not standard nor metric. closest i came up with was a 3/8" -16TPI X1.2" long which is still slightly off.

i have no idea why they used this one oddball bolt on the car. none of my metric thread pitch gauges even came close to fitting it.

MazdaTrix has the bolts for the trans,so it would have the bolt for the starter.
Found THIS:https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t+thread+sizes
you can try 14 mm head 1.0 x40mm Coarse.(if it is the bolt under the starter).

yeah thats the thread I had found that says its "coarse" thread. That thread says its below the starter but it is actually the right bolt that goes throughh the starter thats threaded differently. Anyone else know what the correct size and pitch is?

can't help you, that is a specific bolt. best bet is to rethread and/or helicoil the bolt holes if you cannot locate your old bolt.

at that point you will be able to use more commonly available metric bolts.

that sounds like a good idea. I have never rethread anything but a bolt. How is this done? What will I need to buy? I am guessing thesecome in different sizes and how would I know which to get? Hell I would pay good $ to anyone who will sell me one!!

The thread pitch is 1.5mm, isn't it? Now you guys have made me curious. I'll check the thread pitch today.

fredrx7, I've had good luck chasing threads with a 10mm x 1.5 tap and then cranking in an exhaust stud. Cheap fix that works fine.
