I had something stuck in one of my locks so I took out the lock and banged it on the table until it fell out.

its probably the plastic guard that covers the lock slit. mine broke off one time and i had to take it all apart. Just pull the lock cylinder out of the handle and bang on the table a few times. you might have to get a SMALL screwdriver or some other poking device and coax it out.

A clean shop vacuum if you want to recover the offending piece.

I've seen the little door that covers the slot break off and get wedged inside. Had to remove the handle assembly, get it under some light, and use tweezers to pry it back out.

When the little plastic door broke off mine i got it out with a pair of needle nose pliers and the hook pick from a lock pick set.

You could try the wet/dry vac too before taking the door handle all apart.
