Help with rpms...
I am new to rx7 club but this is my second Turbo II. I have now a 88 TII with 50,3XX miles (original) I bought it from a 65 year old guy that drove it on weekends and babied it. ie: change the old every year with only about 1K to 2K put on the car. and he has records of all mait.
Anyways it is all stock, except I ordered a intake adaptor w/ K&n filter (not here yet). Untill then, for a couple of hp, i cut out the mazda sticker part from the intake which i read in a forum. It seemed to make a little bit of diff. My boost gauge went just below the 40 mark (maybe 37). Here is my prob. Recently if i am in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear and floor it. The tach revs to about 5-6 from the intial 2.5 to 3 in which i floored it. In about 5 secs. the tack finally goes like it should and and the speed increases with the tack. During this rapid increase of rpms, the is only a little aceleration.
It doesnt seem to do this if i floor it from a dead stop untill maybe 80mph. It almost seems like the clutch is slipping???? However i dont think this is likely b/c of the 50K on the car. I have had many cars including a 87 TII where the clutch has gone out. The 87 TII went out at 90 orginal miles. I dont cruse w/ the clutch in, I just shift agressively about 25% of the time when i feel like it. I was wondering if the car was slipping or reving b/c of the cut in the intake I made, or what. There is some kind of hose that goes into the intake box itself, but i doubt that would cause any thing. It goes to the air pump. It seems to do the reving when the boost hits its high end of close to 40. If i am crusing in 4th or 5th and give a qaurter mash on the gas, to make the boost go to about 15-20, it acellerates seemingly like it should and revs at its normal rate.
Please help me out. Is it the clutch, if so, i dont smell any clutch burn. However i noticed this only two days ago.
Sorry to be so long winded but i want to give a you a good idea of what the car is doing. Thanks for any tips, or advice. I dont want to buy a new clutch.

it does sound like a slipping clutch. You could check the adjustment to make sure it's disengaging all the way. Clutches can go out fast if they are not treated well. Flywheel could be glazed too.

I have checked it out with a mechanic. He thinks it is the slave cylinder. 50 bucks. The clutch is not engaging untill the last 3 quarters release. Will see. I dont want to get a new clutch. What is a glazed clutch? Thanks for all help.
