help removing oil filter pedestel

Ok so I got the Racing Beat oil filter pedestel adapter for oil pressure and temperature sending units. To remove the stock one there are two 10mm nuts on studs underneath, but I'm having a hard time getting them off. I can't fit a ratchet down there and I can't get good contact with my box-end ratcheting wrench.

The only thing I can barely get on there is an open-end wrench, but it's hard to know if I even have it on there right because I can't see the thing. When I do manage to get it on there there's hardly any clearance to actually turn the wrench. I'm thinking of borrowing a friend's angle grinder and cutting off half of the wrench to see if I can get more clearance to turn it. Or maybe I need something with a flexible head? I really don't have many good tools.

Any other ideas? Surely somebody here has installed this adapter.

It is a little dark here now, but if I remember correctly, I took the plug wire and plug out to change the o-ring in mine. Should give you the clearance you need.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing then. I'm not near the car right now (won't be until next weekend) but the plugs are definately not close enough to get in the way.

I got mine off with limited tools, just take your time with what you got and you'll get it sooner or later.

I used a ratcheting 10mm wrench and some pipe to get extra leverage to break the rear nut loose, the front one was a little easier.

Those nuts are tough to get to with limited tools. I used a short open end 10mm. If you feel the need to get out a power tool, take 3 steps back, sit down...pop a top...and come back in 20 mins. :-)

what about my idea to cut off part of a 10mm to get more clearance?

also, I have the car jacked up at the moment because I changed the oil. Do you think it will be easier with the car level? Maybe I will try a stepstool to see if I can get high above it and get a better angle.

Thats what I did. I cut an open-ended 10mm wrench in half, and grinded down the edges of the "mouth".

You were right. I just went to the car and looked. It was the coolant temp sensor I removed the plug and wire for. But looking at it, why can't you get a 10mm end wrench on the bolts. There is nothing that "tight" that would hinder your removing them.

^ It's hard enough to get the wrench on there because I can't physically see the nut. Then when I do get it on there securely the wrench hits the firewall before I can really turn it.

i used one hand to hold the wrench onto the nut and the other to turn it...itll turn slightly...
if you can get it to stay on the nut woth one hand smack it with a hammer slightly to break it loose then use your fingers to untighten it

Not to be a smart guy, but haven't you ever wrenched on something where you can't see where the bolt or nut is located? Feel only? Go to a parts store, buy a cheap-*** wrench, put it in a vice, hit it one way , then the other, and so on until it bends, or heat it up and bend it, then try again. Patience, you'll get it.
