HELP: Rebuilding Engine; Pully allignment

I am putting my motor back together and I am stuck because I am not sure how to align all the pullys and make the motor "TDC" so the marks line up?

You don't need to do that. Put the front pulley on, rotate the mark on the pulley to the pin on the front cover, then insert the CAS after aligning the mark on it's gear with the mark on it's shaft.

You'll probably need to adjust the timing with a timing light after it's running.

?

But doesnt the mark on the pully have to meet up with the motor at TDC somehow? Maybe I am overthinking this or something??

Seems to me that the front pulley will only go on one way...the four bolt holes are not symmetrical... but I could be mistaken.

There's two notches on the pulley, from the factory they are painted yellow and red. The first one (yellow) is where your leading plug on the front rotor should fire.

Well what If the Marks have Suddenly Disappeared after 20 years???...the Bolts of the pulley Only go one One way. funny story though..I had Just got an engine Installed in the car, when I noticed that ..Uhoh!,No marks!..I freaked!..I had no idea How to Time the car.I ended up doing It "by Ear".(NOT recommended!).I made a Mark on the Pulley.Stabbed the CAS.Then attempted Starting it.NO start.then so Back to the Mark,Restab the CAS @ 90 degrees Off the Original Stab.I kept doing that Until It "tried to start".Then I knew I was close!.So I Restabbed the Cas One tooth at a Time, and I Got it running. After I got to drive it,I noticed the engine would "knock" abit On acceleration. So I Restabbed again,One tooth. The engine Idle Smoothed out, took it for a Drive and ..YES!..the power was there,NO Knock,nO lag..Now If you Can't find the Mark, there Is a Thread or two on the forum(Sorry the search word is here!).iI can't recall the Name of the Thread sorry.anyhow,Best of luck...and OH,If you Attempt 'My method" It most likely Won't work since your Engine is a Fresh Rebuild and it will have a Hard time starting up anyhow(most Rebuilds I hear do.).Cheers Styx!~

The marks don't disappear. There are physical indentions in the pulley. The only thing that disappears is the color in the indention. Have another look at the pulley real close and you will see them.

Yea the marks will be there unless someone grinded the outside of the pully being stupid somehow. The main peice goes on one way, and then the rest of it needs to be turned till the 4 bolts go in straight.(one way only).

Final?

So whats the final here, they will only go on one way because of the bolt holes? and then rotate it to the white mark and pin are aligned, then match the CAS gear and assembly and then drop in the CAS in?

im new to the whole timing thing .. all i did was pull off the bottom pulley on the engine (the one below the water pump) ... i replaced the pulley which goes on only which way. do i need to worry about adjusting the timing?.... i did not take off the part of the pully that was against the block ... insite

The pulley doesn't change the timing, it just helps you set the timing. Unless you pull out the CAS and rotate it (or rotate the engine while the CAS is out) then the timing hasn't changed.
