Exclamation HELP, possible Vaccum problem, Or? (88 TII)

Some of you remember me having issues with my car around Oct.-Dec. Well, since then I have tried numerous things to get the car running normally again between work and school, and the little woman. Well here is the current situation, see if you can lend a hand, or have any theories.

Here is the cars current setup:
- removed -
acv
egr
aws
bac
airpump
split air pipe
main cat
precat
cold start assist
thermowax
rats nest

- mods -
stock turbo, ported wastegate
2.5" midpipe
2.5" cat back
ebay muffler
tb mod
ported tb
fcd
corksport ss oil cooler lines
cone filter
air bypass open vented via check valve
autometer boost gauge
new 550cc injectos all around

The car is an 88 TII with a ATKINS rebuild, about 14k or so on it as of now. The motor has GOOD compression. There was a coolant leak on the LIM, and possibly the stock turbo. The one rubber o-ring on the LIM was bad causing coolant to seep into the rear end plate. This has since been fixed by replacing the LIM gasket, and the o-rings. All of the block off plates have also been removed and re-sealed. (UIM as well) All of the injectors are NEW, and all of the injector grommets/seals, etc. are NEW.

The car will idle, with the idle set at 1k. ALL of the external motor gaskets (LIM, UIM, Turbo lines, Turbo to mani. Mani. to block) have been replaced, and sealed with red high temp. silicone gasket maker. (where needed) ALL of the vacuum hoses have been replaced with silicone vacuum hoses. Most of the vacuum caps have been replaced, the ones I know of at least.

As stated, the car will idle at 1k if given gas, once you warm it up for a while, it will hold idle at times, but act irratic, but will NOT stall. The car pulls 10 vacuum under moderate throttle, and about 5-7 at idle. The car will take gasoline if throttle is given about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle all the way to redline. If you give it FULL throttle, it will only rev to 4k. Turbo does NOT produce any boost when driven. (I don't have any carb cleaner here to spray to check leaks, I'll get it tomorrow, and NO I cannot hear it HISSING, the exhaust is too loud to hear anything over.)

Oil has NOT been changed since fixing the LIM problem.

Is the car pulling air from a bad rubber gas line? Any other theories?

Thanks,
Chris

Well, Chris, I dont think this wil help much, but I have good compression on my engine and I pull 16lbs of vacuum at idle.

Do you have your vac lines routed properly? No cracks in the TID? Did you vent you BOV to atmosphere? Also make sure your battery or alternator isn't crapping out, my car was idling horribly due to low voltage. Do you have a voltmeter or multimeter to check it?

As far as I know the vacuum lines are routed correctly, I just routed them by replacing the old rubber lines one at a time, so they are all in the correct places. The stock bypass valve IS vented to the atmosphere. I already tried blocking it off to see if that changed anything, and nothing did. The Altenator is NEW, it produces a solid 13-15 volts according to the apexi autotimer.

I heard that those silicone hoses are crap. try spraying starter fluid everywhere. I had around 20 on the vacuum gauge at idle.

sorry to threadjack....how do you make block-off plates? is there a link? thanks, BTW my t2 pulls like 20 vaccuum at idle but it idles at like 2,000 rpms because of the throttle body sticking.

you can make them I suppose, but the easiest way is to just get a set off of ebay or from the for sale section. Also, I forgot to mention the car has a walbro 255lph pump. It was reccomended I check my TID for cracks (it is new though) and possibly the exhaust being restricted or clogged.

Thanks,
Chris

i have heard that the ABV needs to be run into the post MAF portion of the intake tube. not open vented or blocked off. otherwise these get funky.

yea, my APV is routed there, I just blocked it off to see if it was leaking and the cause of the problem. Thanks.

I replaced the TID with a silicone coupler and a piece of intercooler hard pipe off of a Nissan 300zx TT and now vacuum at say.....650-725rpm is about 10, giving it gas and letting off yields a pull of 20 on the gauge. (this gauge has always been slightly off) Some of the vaccum hoses need secured a little better, but the car seems to be running a lot smoother and is taking full throttle blips. I would say the main problem now is fouled spark plugs seeing that the ones in there have been sand blasted about a million times.
