Help needed

Hi,

My question is what is the best setup for 1/4 mile and for 1km. The reason I ask in that South Africa runs a few distances when it comes to drag racing. We run the normal 400m (1/4mile), the 800m as well as the 1km Top speed runs.

The problem comes in with diff rations etc, fine understandable, but what about x-hasuts. It seems like the shorter the run the shorter the exhuast should be ie out the side or a custom short exhuast, while the 1km needs a longer say 76mm-89mm (aprox 3.5" to around 4"), and run to the rear of the car.

Please assist because I would really like to get this problem sorted out!!!!

One other thing,

I drive a 1981 Mazda 323 with a series 5 motor dropped in. The car has a few mods, nothing super. The car has a street port, soon to be dowled, Excel waste gate, custom intercooler, dumpvalve, custom charge piping, Microtech LTX8, a Ar70 with a 60-1, 1 mil, not to sure of the exact size of the compressor side "hot side". The car runs at around 17 PSi and runs a 1/4 mile of around 12.2. What other mods do you guys suggest!!! Please help!

Thanks

You need to decide what type of raceing you will do. You can only be best in 1 then maybe we can help you build a car for it

The best depends on what you want to do or you have most fun. A properly tuned straight line car will be geard to compleatly top out the cars speed and rdline final gear right as you pass the line. Thus if you build a 1/4 car you will be unable to run 1/2 or 1 mile runs. This in minde what do you want to do?

Your exhaust has very little to do with it. With turbo cars, it is much more important to create a large pressure diff between the turbine and atmosphere, and thus you want to go with a larger pipe size.

The key are the gear ratios. If you have the money, go with a tranny (ie. Lynco) for which you can get every gear imaginable, and a classic quick change rear end...
